On Saturday June 1 The Brotherhood of Saint Dismas a Catholic confraternity started by a Norbertine priest, Father Adrian went on a 15 mile journey from Saint Michael’s Abbey in El Torro, California to Mission Basilica in San Juan Capistrano. We went to pay our homage to Our Lady of Guadalupe. We left Saint Michael’s abbey at around 9 AM and arrived at Mission Basilica at around 4:30 PM
we started the day with a Latin Mass offered by the Premonstratensian Fathers of Saint Michael’s Abbey in El Torro, California. It was a beautiful Mass both by the priest and the seminarians. Underneath the Norbertine seminarians take part in the Mass.
The pilgrimage gave us all an opportunity to show the beauty of our Catholic faith. It gave us an opportunity for doing penance by praying, fasting, and offering the long traveled distance for the greater glory of God. We passed many people along the road, people who were biking, walking, and simply enjoying the beautiful landscapes that the road had to offer.
Once we got to the Mission Basilica in San Juan Capistrano, many members of the Hermandad de San Dimas surrounded the mission as it was their first time visiting the church. It truly was a beautiful church and if I ever do become a Norbertine priest I would not mind at all celebrating Mass at the mission.
There was a lot of beautiful gold crafted images and statues in the Mission Basilica. The pilgrimige was truly a wonderful experience and I can’t wait to do it next year.
